BRODZIAK CUP TONIGHT

It's finally here, the Black and White game goes tonight at 7:00 pm

Former Warriors Kyle Brodziak has been gracious enough to sponsor tonight's game!

N0w, when your enjoying tonights game be sure to take a peek at a few individuals.

On team black, Dylan McIlrath (#8) and Morgan Rielly (#4) will be on the blue line with 6'4" 17 year old Joel Edmundson. This year's first round Bantam draft pick Torrin White has had a great camp, he will be wearing #22. BC native, Matt Grant (#15) stands in at 6'2" 200 pounts and offensively looks like a major threat.

Team White, Collin Bowman (#10) (obtained in K. Smith trade) looks to be a great addition. Jordan Weist (#2) had a strong showing at camp. Sam Fioretti (#11) played with Quinton Howden during a few scrimmages--- they had some great shifts. Mike Forsyth (#14) aquired last year from Med Hat, stood out on the ice all week. Brayden Cuthbert (#20), two words... VERY SKILLED. Quinton Howden (#21) will be on team white tonight... perhaps you will see him out with Fioretti or Hlinka....

Who to watch...

If you have not had a chance to stop by the Civic Center the past few days.... you're missing out! The Warriors have on display 80 plus talented young prospects challenging for roster spots. Friday night the players will be back on the ice for scrimmages, here's who you should keep an eye on:

Team White: Joey Kornelsen (10), returning from last year as the only 17 year old Joe has grown both in stature and skill over the summer. AJ Johnson (15), a Warriors Bantam Draft pick who is showing his speed and scoring ability

Team Black: Matt Grant (9), big forward who is making a statement, Dallas Ehrhardt (2), having an injury filled 09.10 season, Dallas looks to have worked very hard over the summer and is in top condition, Latrell Charleson (6), a BIG D man who managed a goal in a scrimmage shoot out

Team Red: Sam Fioretti (10) has been a dynamite at camp, Michal Hlinka (14) is proving why he deserves a roster spot with his ability to throw around the body, Morgan Rielly (8) is a rock, solid and steady.

Catching Up with Kendall McFaull

18 year old Kendall McFaull talks about summer camp...

Q: When do you head to Atlanta for rookie camp?
A: "I will be leaving on September 12th for Atlanta and am really looking forward to it."

Q: Is there anything particular you are working on in preparation for your trip the Atlanta at camp and the time prior to leaving?

A: "I've been really focusing on my foot speed and just trying to get back in 'game shape' and get that feel for the game back. Over the summer I was only able to get in some shinny games and the pace is something to adjust to."

Q: Are there any prospects that you've really noticed out on the ice?

A:"Mike Forsyth (acquired in the Dubyk/MacKay Medicine Hat trade) is doing well. I like how he plays the power forward roll, he hits guys and off the ice is a great guy." Import pick Mike Hlinka is another player that is showing what he's got-- he's a tough guy and is really throwing his weight around."

Current players thoughts on camp...

Checking in with 18 year old Nathan MacMaster

Q: How's camp going so far?

A: "Great, it is always a good experience. It's ncie to see the young guys competing and showing what they can do."

Q: Are there any prospects that are really standing out to you?

A: "Of course Morgan Rielly, he seems like he is a returning vet-- that's how comfortable he looks out there. AJ Johnson is another player that is making a good stand.

Q: What are you hoping to show the Warriors coaching/scouting camp come Sunday at the Brodziak Cup game?

A: "Just my speed and passing ability, along with my ability to create offense."

SEASON TICKET HOLDERS CAN PICK UP THEIR TICKETS BEGINNING FRIDAY AT 9:00 AM

WARRIORS PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT- MORGAN RIELLY

Warrior prospect Morgan Rielly made quite a splash at last year’s summer camp, impressing the fans and team mates alike thought he could have held his own on the blue line for the tribe. This is Morgan’s legitimate chance at making the squad as a 16 year old. Is there added pressure on Morgan after a big showing at camp and a Telus Cup winning season with the Notre Dame Hounds? “Maybe a little, but I am just happy to be here and show the coaching staff what I can do,” said Rielly.

Morgan says he has just one goal coming into camp-- make the team. “I worked on my speed and quickness during the off season in preparation for the upcoming week,” he said. “I worked out at TWIST this summer in BC, a number of league players trained their too—a few players from the Pats and Rockets,” he added.

Morgan will be taking to the ice with a number of players he looks up to and has had the opportunity to get to know. “Thomas Frazee treats me well, he helps me out whenever he can,” commented Rielly. If he earns a roster spot, Morgan will be part of a young and strong defensive unit, one that contains two 2010 NHL Draft picks. “It’s great to be out their with Dylan McIlrath, after the success he had this past season I hope that will be me in the future,” added Rielly.

ROSETOWN TO ATLANTA

The Moose Jaw Warriors own Kendall McFaull attended Atlanta Thrashers camp in July.  Kendall was a 6th round pick of the Thrashers in 2010 NHL Draft. Here's a little Q and A with Kendall:

Q: Tell us about your camp experience?
A: It was great, we skated three times a day-- one of those being a four on four game.  We did off ice each day with  a strength coach.

Q: Did you feel like you had a chance to bond with some of the other camp attendees?
A: Yes, we went out as a team to eat for camp.  Being around all the other players made me realize how close I am to achieving my dream.

Q: Any specific pointers or things the Thrashers staff want you to work on?
A: I need to fine tune my skills to reach that next level.  Everyone is so close in skill...

Q: Meet anyone interesting?
A: I got to meet a lot of college players, it was neat hearing stories from a completley different path they took to get to the NHL

Q: What was Atlanta like?
A: Very nice.... big tees, HOT! It would be 10:30 pm and still in the high twenties every night

Thanks Kendall!

The Moose Jaw Warriors are pleased to announce the hiring of the Warriors new Director of Hockey Operations, Alan Millar. The Warriors introduced Alan at a press conference Friday in the Warriors dressing room. Alan is ready to get started building the future of Warriors hockey in that very building yet looking ahead to the multiplex. “I would like to thank the Warriors Board of Directors for this great opportunity,” said Warriors Director of Hockey Operations Alan Millar. “I am very happy to be part of the Warriors tradition and part of the Western Hockey League,” added Millar. “I look forward to working with both the hockey and business staff to continue building the franchise on the ice as well as in the community,” he said.

The Warriors Boards of Directors feel Alan is the right individual to take the Warriors to the next level this season and in the years to come. “Alan brings a wide range of experience and is well respect by many of the WHL owners and General Managers within our league,” commented Warriors President Chad Taylor. “He is someone that we feel very confident in being the face of the organization and an individual who will complement our current Hockey Operation staff,” added Taylor.

Alan brings a wealth of CHL knowledge to the tribe. Alan Millar served as the General Manager/Alternate Governor of the Sarnia Sting (OHL) from 2004-2009. Nine players from the 2007-08 team signed pro-contacts during his time in Sarnia.

During his time in Guelph, Alan led the team to 6 consecutive playoff appearances. In 1998, the Storm were named the OHL Champions and narrowly lost in the Memorial Cup final in overtime.

Alan also had a stint in the American Hockey League from 1993-1997 with the Saint John Flames as the Director of Operations/Alternate Governor. Among his many accomplishments, Alan’s Guelph Storm team played host to the 2002 Memorial Cup. He served as Director of Hockey Operations with Team Ontario from 2002-2004. Alan was part Hockey Canada’s CHL General Manager’s committee from 2005-2009, helping to evaluate players for Canada’s U-18 teams, World Junior teams and the CHL Canada/Russia series.
