Monday Morning Madness

What a windy day! Sounds like rain and more wind for tomorrow. Great.

The Memorial Cup match ups are all set for this weekend.  The St. John Sea Dogs, winner of the QMJHL will take on the host Mississauga squad Friday.  Kootenay will play the OHL winning team, Owen Sound Attack.  Owen Sound won 3-2 over the host team in game 7 Sunday night.  The WHL representatives should be well rested, being off far longer than either OHL team.  Can the Ice take home the title?

Here is the full schedule:

The Vancouver Canucks came back to beat the Sharks this weekend.  3-2 was the final.  Tampa put away Boston Friday night.  No games tonight... back at it Tuesday with Tampa and Boston.

Finland was named World Hockey Champs, defeating Sweden 6-1.  Wasn't much of a nail bitter...
The Czech team took home the bronze medal in a 7-4 victory.

Some shocking news came out of the hockey world late Friday night.  Derek Boogaard passed away. The 28-year-old player was found dead Friday in his Minneapolis apartment. Few details were available, but the news rippled across the NHL, where the 6-foot-7 Boogaard was a fan favorite and one of the game's most feared fighters. He missed most of last season because of a concussion and shoulder injury from a fight.  Derek played for the Pats, Cougars and Tigers during his WHL career.  Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Our thoughts go out to the people of Slave Lake. Provincial officials say 40 per cent of the town of Slave Lake, Alta., has been destroyed or damaged by wildfires which swept into the community with little warning Sunday night, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

On the Warriors front, preparations are being made for the upcoming Prospects Camp for the first weekend of June.  Details coming soon!

Just a reminder, the WHL Ride for Kids comes through Moose Jaw on Wednesday June 8th.  A meet and greet is planned along with a cocktail reception for the celebrity riders.  We should have the final guest list very soon.  All the funds raised go to the Saskatchewan Children's Hospital

Are you on twitter yet?  It is the fastest way of getting news these days.  When something breaks... twitter has it.  I've noticed a few GM's in the league seem to be on it now.  Including Brent Parker and Kelly McCrimmon.  You can follow the Warriors at www.twitter.com/MJWARRIORS .  Theo Fleury started following us last week--- many of his fans have followed suit.

That's all for now folks!
