Those very ties along with an autographed signed photo of each player will be up for auction. Dedication ties will be available for $1.00 with all funds raised directly benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. The goal will be to figuratively cover both blue lines with ties (which would be 200 ties). Fans are encouraged to join the fight and tie on their own blue tie or scarf next Wednesday.
The Warriors understand the importance of supporting the Canadian Cancer Society and bringing awareness to Men’s cancer awareness. Men are battling cancer throughout Canada, and Wednesday September 29th the Warriors will pay tribute to those who are fighting cancer and to those who have lost their lives to cancer.
Supporting cancer research is very important to many in the Warriors organization, Head Coach Dave Hunchak is one of them. “Having lost my father to cancer and witnessing my mother-in-law beating cancer into remission over the past 15 months, raising money for cancer research on all levels is a very personal cause. Most people in the world have been touched by the disease either directly or indirectly. I would like to personally thank the many people who have and will contribute to the fight and encourage the people in the fight to keep swinging,” commented Dave Hunchak.
A blue tie is a symbol of Prostate Cancer, a cancer an estimated 24,600 men will be diagnosed with this year. A man has a greater than 1 in 7 chance of developing prostate cancer in his lifetime according to 2009 statistics. But with the gracious support of the Warriors fans, the Warriors can fight cancer right here in Moose Jaw. Over the next two weeks, the Warriors want to raise $2,500 for cancer; funds the directly benefit cancer research and early detection education.
Gaye Stewart of the Canadian Cancer Society appreciates the Warriors continued support here in Moose Jaw. “The Moose Jaw Unit is very proud to be partner with the WHL and the Moose Jaw Warriors. Through education and fundraising, it brings awareness to both the players and the community in hopes that one day there will be no cancer. Congratulations to the players for participating in this event and we look forward to many more successful working relationships,” commented Unit Manager of the Moose Jaw Canadian Cancer Society, Gaye Stewart.
