Former Warrior Wins the Cup

The WHL would like to congratulate the six WHL graduates on the Boston Bruins roster for capturing the Stanley Cup Championship including Milan Lucic who was the Vancouver Giants Team Captain when they captured the MasterCard Memorial Cup in 2007.

WHL Graduates on the Boston Bruins:
Johnny Boychuk - Calgary/Moose Jaw (2000-04)
Zdeno Chara - Prince George (1996-97)
Andrew Ference - Portland (1995-99)
Shane Hnidy - Swift Current/Prince Albert (1991-96)
Milan Lucic - Vancouver (2005-07)
Mark Recchi - New Westminster/Kamloops (1984-88)

Two of the players above have now won a WHL Championship title, Memorial Cup Championship and Stanley Cup title including Andrew Ference in 1998 with the Wiinterhawks and Milan Lucic who captured the WHL Championship in 2006 and Memorial Cup in 2007 with the Vancouver Giants.

In addition to the six players on the Bruins, one member of their coaching staff is a graduate of the WHL, Assistant Coach Doug Houda played with the Calgary Wranglers and Medicine Hat Tigers from 1982 to 1986.

The WHL would also like to recognize the five graduates that competed on the Vancouver Canucks including Alexander Edler - Kelowna (2005-06)), Dan Hamhuis - Prince George (1998-2002), Jannik Hansen - Portland (2005-06), Aaron Rome - Saskatoon/Kootenay/Swift Current/Medicine Hat (1999-2004) and Rick Rypien - Regina (2001-05).

In total, 32 CHL graduates competed in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals between Boston and Vancouver.

Congratulations to all WHL Alumni on a tremendous season in the NHL!
