BRONCO BANTER:
(Feb. 19th: Swift Current 5 at Brandon 6) The Swift Current Broncos wrapped up their season series with the Brandon Wheat Kings falling 6-5 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,233 at the Credit Union i-Plex. Wheat King Mark Stone would waste no time scoring the first goal of the night two minutes into play. Less than three minutes later, Shayne Wiebe would score two consecutive goals and put the Wheat Kings up by three. After twenty minutes of play, the Broncos would trail 5-0 as both Matt MacKay and Scott Glennie would add additional singles. Midway through the second period, Jordan Evans would put the Broncos on the board slipping one past Wheat King netminder Liam Liston. Shortly after, Adam Lowry would make it a 5-2 contest capitalizing off a feed from Christian Magnus. In the third period, Wheat King Paul Ciarelli would be called for slashing allowing Tanner Muth to capitalize on the man advantage and put the Broncos within two. Less than two minutes later, Magnus would further the Broncos scoring streak notching his sixth of the season and making it 5-4.
Unfortunately, the Wheat Kings would revive their two goal lead shortly after as David Toews would slip one past Mark Friesen midway through the third. An empty Bronco net in the dying minutes of play would allow Bronco Trevor Cameron to light the lamp notching his fifth of the season and make it a 6-5 final. The Broncos had 29 shots on net whereas the Wheat Kings had 31. The Broncos were 1 for 2 on the power play while the Wheat Kings were 0 for 1. The Broncos fall to eleventh in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the Regina Pats and three behind the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
