Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the Red Deer Rebels will welcome Dylan Hood and the Moose Jaw Warriors for a clash between Eastern Conference powers on Saturday.
The Rebels are coming off a 5-1 win in Swift Current over the Broncos last Sunday for their fifth consecutive victory, and currently share first place in the Central Division with Kootenay. The Rebels have outscored their opponents by a 23-3 score line over their last five games. Nugent-Hopkins was named the Player of the Game for Team Orr in the 2011 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday in Toronto.
The Warriors are coming off a 4-0 win over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday for their third win in a row, and are currently tied on points with Medicine Hat for fourth place in the Eastern Conference – just five points back of Red Deer. The Warriors have scored the second-highest number of goals of any Eastern Conference team this season.
It’s the third of four meetings between the teams this season. The Rebels won both previous meetings versus the Warriors, with both wins coming in Moose Jaw.
The Rebels goaltender, Darcy Kuemper was named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season. For the week ending January 16, Kuemper posted a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutouts for a goals-against-average of 0.320 and save percentage of .988.
