The Warriors will host the Brandon Wheat Kings Friday night in the first of a home and home series this weekend. The Warriors are coming off of a tight 3-2 loss in Prince Albert Wednesday night.

The Warriors record sits at 13-11-0-1. The Wheat Kings are only 3 points back of the tribe in the standings. Brandon is heading into Friday after suffering a 3-2 overtime loss at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos.

How these teams stack up…

Leading the tribe is Quinton Howden with 26 points followed closely by Dylan Hood with 25. Newly acquired Mackezie Royer is three for three in his first few games as a Warrior. Royer has a goal in each game. Cody Beach, another recent acquisition, has 5 points in three games.

Goalie Thomas Heemskerk ranks in the top 15 goaltenders in the WHL placed 13th with 10 wins. Heemskerk leads the league in minutes played at 1354. He has made 633 saves this season and has claimed 2 shoot out victories. On the back end for the tribe, Collin Bowman leads the D-men with 14 points. Still recovering from an injury suffered on November 15th is Dylan McIlrath. McIlrath’s return date is still pending. Warriors have called up Shayne Gwinner, who will be with the team for the Brandon series and played Wednesday night in Prince Albert.

Young and talented Warriors rookies have been making a difference for the tribe. Sam Fioretti has 15 points. Morgan Rielly has 11 points for the black and red.

The Wheat Kings are lead by Mark Stone with 14 goals and 19 assists. Scott Glennie has 22 points for Brandon. he Wheaties have used goaltender Lian Liston in 19 games this season. He is 9-8-0-1 on the season. Back up goalie, Corbin Boes has not managed a win in his 7 games. Both goalies are very young at 17 years old.

The core of the team centers around 20 year old Shayne Wiebe and two experienced d-men in Brodie Melnychuk and Darren Bestland.

Warriors are 16-22-1-2 against the Wheaties in the past 5 years.  The last game between these two teams was November 20th when the Warriors came from behind for a 4-2 victory. The last time Brandon was in Moose Jaw was September 29th when they fell 5-2.
