WARRIORS AND PORTLAND TONIGHT

Tonight is the only meeting of the season between the Warriors and Portland Winterhawks. The Warriors won their only meeting last season 7-6 in Portland. Moose Jaw is 3-2 in the last five years against Portland, posting a 1-1 record at home over that time.


Dylan McIlrath led the Warriors with a goal and three points against Portland; Quinton Howden had two goals; Spencer Edwards and Antonin Honejsek had a goal each; Jesse Paradis had one assist.

Eric Doyle led Portland with a goal and three points against the Warriors (1-1-2pts with Swift Current); Joe Morrow had two goals; Riley Boychuk and Chris Francis had a goal and two points each; Taylor Aronson had two assists; Ty Rattie and Stefen Schneider had a goal each; Oliver Gabriel and Nino Niederreiter had an assist each; Mac Carruth was 0-1 with a 7.71gaa and .826sv%.


TEAM NOTES: Portland (17-3-0-1) comes into tonight’s game leading the league with 35 points after last night’s win in Prince Albert. Portland has three wins in four games on the East Division road trip thus far.


PORTLAND VS. MOOSE JAW: The Winterhawks will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak to the Warriors in tonight’s meeting, the lone matchup of the season between the two teams. Last season the Warriors came out on top in a high-scoring 7-6 battle. The Hawks haven’t won in Moose Jaw since Nov. 15, 2006.

The Winterhawks continue their trip through the East Division tonight having won three of their first four games on the trip. The Winterhawks sit atop the WHL in numerous categories, including points (35), wins (17) and winning percentage (.833). In the most recent CHL rankings, the Winterhawks were first in the WHL, and second in the 60-team CHL.

The Winterhawks matched a franchise record when they had eight players taken in the 2010 NHL Draft, including the fourth and fifth overall picks, the first time in franchise history two Winterhawks teammates went in the top-five of the draft:
