Atcheynum and Kletzel to Highlight Alumni Weekend

Moose Jaw, SK—The Moose Jaw Warriors and Conexus are proud to announce the 2011 Warriors and Legends Hall of Fame Inductees as Blair Atcheynum and Derek Kletzel.  The induction banquet is set for August 19th with a golf tournament following on Saturday August 20th to wrap up the Alumni weekend presented by Conexus.

The Warriors will welcome two deserving inductees to the wall this August. Blair Atcheynum spent three seasons as a Warrior from 1986-1989.  In that time he played in 143 games notching 105 goals and 84 assists for 189 points during his Warriors career.  Blair still holds the Warrior record for most goals in a season with 70 in 1988-89.   Blair went on to an extensive professional career in both the AHL and NHL.  The Estevan born hockey star, played in 169 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues and was part of the first Nashville Predators team in the 1998 Expansion draft as well as the Chicago Blackhawks.  A draft pick of the Hartford Whalers in 89, Blair’s passion for hockey lead him to a successful pro career that ended in 2001.

Derek Kletzel, a four year Warrior veteran and captain; put on the red and black from 1988-1992.  Derek played in 190 games, banking 83 goals and 100 assists during his WHL career. Derek attended Acadia University in 1992 to 1994 and the University of Regina in 1994-1996 to earn his Bachelor of Physical Activity Studies (BPAS).  Since 1997, Derek has been a Kinesiologist and part owner at Julien’s Fitness and Rehab in Moose Jaw.  Derek continues to support the Moose Jaw Warriors through his dedication to the Alumni Committee and as the color commentator for Warrior home games.

This year’s builder inductee is 15 year radio broadcaster, Rob Carnie.  Calling over 800 games from 1986 through 2001, Rob entertained Warrior fans over the air waves and has made a lasting impression on all those who know and love his signature voice.

Tuesday Thoughts

Good morning!

Lots of chatter regarding the Thrashers possible move to Winnipeg today.  In this article, just posted a half hour ago it reads "Winnipeg set to celebrate NHL Return".... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/winnipeg-set-to-celebrate-nhl-return/article2041112/

The Stanley Cup finals gets underway tomorrow, hopefully they can iron out the Winnipeg news to keep the focus on the main event--- although even if it the annoucement is made today all anyone will be talking about for the rest of the weeks is the Peg.  What will they be called... what will be the new division line up... who won't play in the cold prairies... and all those details.

Warrior Kendall McFaull was drafted by the Thrashers in 2010... a move to Winnipeg would make him much closer to home for rookie camps and into the future...

Joel Edmundson is in Toronto today for the NHL combine.  He will be put through a variety of tests and interviews for NHL teams to get a feel for the 6'5" d-man from Winnipeg, MB.  We wish him all the best out in TO.

Do you think Jonathan Huberdeau will go first overall with his Mem cup performance? He finished with 3 goals and 6 points in Saint John's four games, including an overtime winner last Monday against Owen Sound, certainly proved why he was rated No. 3 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in April.  He also won the Mem cup MVP...
WHLer Ryan Nugent Hopkins took home the CHL Top Prospect Award at the CHL Awards.... Had the chance to meet his father on the weekend.  He said they have a busy month ahead.... after the awards they were going to stay in Toronto for the Combine and of course get ready for the big day in June.  It would be nice for a WHL star to go first overall....

A few different articles in point believe even if Nugent Hopkins is selected first overall, he will stay in the WHL for another season to grow and mature to prepare to his obvious next step to the show.  Can you imagine Eberle, Hall and Nugent Hopkins together in Edmonton.... that would be something--- and a likley conundrum in the future with the hefty wages they will demand.

The Prince Albert Raiders extended their Director of Player Personnel, Dal Derkatch yesterday....

It's Tim Horton's Camp day tomorrow, stop by either Timmys location tomorrow and support Camp Day and meet members of the Warriors staff.

Have a great day!
