Warriors Sink Raiders... Again!
The Warriors began tonight’s matchup with the Prince Albert Raiders with a power play goal from the 25th overall 2010 NHL draft pick of the Florida Panthers, Quinton Howden. Assistant Captain Howden put another on the board only minutes later with help from Captain Edwards and Antonin Honejsek. Warriors Win!
Enough said... Warriors pulled off a shoot out win tonight in Prince Albert.
First star (for Warriors fans and second star in the game) of the night, rightly so... Thomas Heemskerk who faced 49 shots and saved 45 of them.
Tonight's game had goals from Dylan McIlrath, Nathan MacMaster, Danny Gayle and the clutch goal came from Morgan Rielly. Great night for the young Warriors with everyone contributing... even when the Raiders were able to keep Howden, Hood and Edwards off the score sheet.
Tony Honejsek had the game winning goal in the shoot out, scoring the lone SO goal. Thomas Heemskerk made all three saves. Warriors did not get a single power play opportunity tonight with just one PA penalty all night (Kornelsen and Svendsen each received a roughing). Warriors were 3/5 on PK.
Warriors win it 5-4 in OT.

Catching Up with Former Warrior Travis Hamonic
He may have finished his career with the Brandon Wheat Kings, but Travis Hamonic will always be a Warriors in the hearts of the Moose Jaw fans. Travis is currently playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL (New York Islanders affiliate team). Here's a little Q & A with Travis:
Marnel: What city are you playing in right now... What's it like?
Travis Hamonic: Well I play in Bridgeport, but we live in a city called Milford. I live with 3 other players in a huge 5 bedroom house. It's different here then where I'm used to! Our place is right on the water... our back yard is the ocean.
Marnel: Warm weather then?
Travis Hamonic: Still t-shirt weather right now, but honetly I heard it snowed in Moose Jaw yesterday and I'd love to have snow right now. I'm already missing Canada and especially the Moose Jaw winters.
Marnel: So what's the travel like in the AHL... Plane? Bus? Far as WHL rides?
Travis Hamonic: It's definitely a lot better then the WHL. Everything is within 3-4 hours for the most part. We bus most places, it's a lot like Junior in a way.
Marnel: Lots of fans in Bridegeport?
Travis Hamonic: Yes... We got a real good fan base. Great fans who enjoy cheering us on.
Marnel: Hockey wise... Feel like you've grown over the summer? Skill wise...
Travis Hamonic: I've been playing a lot which is good, I'm trying to earn my way through the line up, being a younger guy. I'm playing big minutes which is very rewarding. I'm happy my coaches trust me in those situations and have given me the oppertunity to take and run with it. I worked a lot of strength this summer and I feel like its helped me transition to the pro game very well considering I'm playing against men everynight and guys are stronger.
Marnel: Any words for the Moose Jaw fans?
Travis Hamonic: I just wanted to say hi to everyone and I hope your all doing well, I miss everyone and definitely miss stepping onto the crushed can ice and for those 3 and half years I spent with mj, I learned a lot to get me where I am right now which is a lot to be thankful for!
Marnel: Have you been following your old team mates?
Travis Hamonic: I've tuned into a few games to see and I'm always watching scores etc.

Former Warrior Deryk Engelland a Physical Presence for Penguins
Engelland's Physical Play Earning Him PraiseWednesday, 10.20.2010 / 4:30 PM / Features By Jason Seidling The Takeaway:
Deryk Engelland has stepped up to help the Penguins get through early-season injuries to Brooks Orpik and Zbynek Michalek.
Engelland adds a physical and enforcer presence that makes him unique to the Penguins’ blue line.
Fights like the one Engelland had with heavyweight Colton Orr on Oct. 13 have earned him respect throughout the league.
The injuries that knocked shutdown blueliners Brooks Orpik (groin) and Zbynek Michalek (upper-body) from the lineup within the first three games of the season might have been devastating for some teams.
First-year defenseman Deryk Engelland has stepped to the forefront and filled in admirably, even earning himself a little notoriety around the league thanks to the physical element he provides.
“Deryk has made some strides off the ice and away from the rink the last two years,” head coach Dan Bylsma said. “He still adds that grit and bite to playing defense. He’s playing physical. He’s hitting skilled guys in the corners. He’s playing hard on them. He still has the toughness element that you’ve seen the last couple of games.”
Adding grit and toughness to the Penguins lineup is something that Engelland first offered in a cameo appearance with the team last November when injuries ravaged the blue line. Engelland was so impressive in his brief nine-game stint last year that he entered this season’s training camp as a frontrunner to capture one of the team’s two defensive openings.
Not only did Engelland work hard enough over the summer and in camp to put himself in position to make the opening-day roster, he was also on the ice in uniform when the season began on Oct. 7 at CONSOL Energy Center.
Since that time, his ever-improving play and the team’s injuries have combined to earn Engelland extra playing time. Such on-the-job training is helping Engelland continue to build upon the success he has had.
“The more ice time you get, the better you feel every shift,” Engelland said. “It’s about just getting more and more experience every game you play. I’m just trying to get better every day in practice and take that into games.”
As Engelland continues to gain experience, he is quickly establishing himself as one of the toughest customers in the National Hockey League.
Engelland has always prided himself on being a good and willing fighter – an attribute that makes him unique to any of the team’s other defensemen.
“That’s what has gotten me here,” Engelland said. “I can’t stop doing it for any amount of time. We need that element on the back end, so I don’t mind doing it. It’s fun most of the time. It’s been good for me so far.”
On Oct. 13, when the Penguins hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs, Engelland earned himself plenty of respect not only in his own locker room, but around the league, when he dropped the gloves in the second period with premier heavyweight Colton Orr.
Engelland not only held his own in the bout, he delivered Orr a knockout punch to the jaw that would have made Muhammad Ali proud.
“Just going against a guy like that – he is so well-known around the league,” Engelland said. “He is one of the top heavyweights. He’ll go with anyone.
“I was able to land a solid punch on him. I definitely think there was a bit of luck to land that clean of a shot on a guy like that. That was probably the top fight of my career for sure.”
Engelland’s KO of Orr quickly made the 28-year-old defenseman a Youtube sensation. The blow was so impressive that even ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon spent a two-minute segment describing it on their popular daily show, Pardon the Interruption.
“That’s huge for me to be able to be mentioned on a show like that,” Engelland said. “It’s good exposure. I’m trying to make a name for myself. I guess that’s a good way to do it.”

WARRIORS FALL IN SHOOT OUT TO TIGERS
A fast skating Medicine Hat team scored the first goal of the game from Emerson Etem to kick off the night. Nathan MacMaster was able to tie it up in the first and send the the teams into the dressing room with a score of 1-1.
Defensemen Thomas Carr got one past Heemskerk in the second and no further scoring would take place. Many chances for both squads would arise early in the third but no one could find the back of the mesh. In the dieing seconds of the third, with a powerr play advantage and Heemskerk on the bench; Quinton Howden slammed the tieing goal past Tyler Bunz to send the game into OT.
Over time would be quiet and a shoot out would be the result. Up first for the Warriors, Spencer Edwards would be stopped. Wacey Hamilton would be the first to have a go at Heemskerk and would be denied. Dylan Hood would go high on a back hand attempt followed by another Heemskerk stop on Jace Coyle. Warrior Quinton Howden would not find the net, leaving it up to Linden Vey. Vey would send Heemskerk sprawling and a light touch would seal the deal for the visitors.
Warriors fired 33 shots at Bunz and the Tigers managed 25 shots on the home team. Warriors went 2/5 on the power play and 2/3 on the penatly kill.

Warriors to Tilt with Toon Town Tuesday
The Warriors will face the 8-1 Blades tomorrow night at the Civic Center. The Blades are off to their best start of the season in 47 years. The Blades are coming off of a 4-0 win against Lethbridge. The Warriors last game was almost a week ago against the Kootenay Ice.
Who to watch:
Saskatoon
Darian Dziurzynki was named the WHL player of the week and had a hat trick agianst the tribe in their last meeting.
Adam Morrison, goaltending for Saskatoon, Morrison made 37 saves in the Blades last game. Steven Stanford was in net last time these two met. Who will get the start?
Stafan Elliot is a difference maker for the Blades. This 19 year old had the game winning goal last time the Warriors visited Saskatoon.
Moose Jaw
Collin Bowman had three points in the Warriors last matchup with Kootenay; one being his first goal of the season.
Sam Fioretti might be a rookie to the tribe, but is showing his potential after returning from a break due to a concussion. Sam had three helpers in the last game.
Antonin Honejsek has a pair of goals in last Wednesday's game. Tony is at the top of the Warriors point rankings.
Quinton Howden's Keys to Winning Tuesday Night:
1. Special Teams
A major improvement from the last few games, the Warriors went 3/9 on the Power Play vs Kootenay and limited the opposition to just two PP advantages, yet went 1/2 on the PK. Capitalizing on the PP and avoiding the PK are definite factors in producing another W.
2. Consistency from Shift to Shift
A hockey game consists of 60 minutes of hockey. The Warriors will need to be consistent and working hard for all 60 minutes against the strong Saskatoon team.
3. Hard Work
Nothing pays off more than hard work. Dylan McIlrath went home with hardest working Warrior last Wednesday and put it all on the line each and every shift. Each Warrior needs to leave it all on the ice Tuesday night.

1. Special Teams
The Warriors are 3/35 (8%) on the power play in 9 games.

3. Execution
Putting it all together will equal pucks in the net and a favorable score on the clock

WARRIORS HIT SEASON TICKET GOAL
Moose Jaw, SK.--- After a great response to the Warriors season ticket promotion, offering 10/11 season tickets for only $350, the team was pleased to announce they beat their previous season ticket holder record of 1845 by selling 2127 season tickets. After the July promotion, the Warriors continued to recruit season ticket holders and brought in another 73 individuals. With that, the Warriors have reached their ultimate goal of having 2,200 season ticket holders for the 2010/11 season.
“We are very excited with the level of support shown by the fans this season.” commented Warriors Director of Business Operations Corey Nyhagen. “It is now up to us as an organization to entertain the fans both on the ice and in the stands throughout the season as we prepare for our move into our new home…our fans have committed to this team and it is now up to us to commit to them, by providing outstanding sports entertainment each night” he added.
By reaching that number the team has welcomed 357 new members to the tribe. Although limited, there are still seats available for purchase. With a promise of similar or better seating in the new multiplex, Warriors fans are scooping up seats while they can.
With three sellouts already in the books for the 10/11 season, the Warriors encourage fans who want to take in Warriors hockey should save a seat while they can in order to avoid disappointment at the door.
