The CHL Import draft wrapped up yesterday. The Warriors selected a Swiss forward in Eric Arnold. Here is how the rest of the day looked:
The Canadian Hockey League today announced the final results of the 2011 CHL Import Draft.
Western Hockey League Clubs selected a total of 25 players in the draft. The two rounds included a total of 62 players selected from 10 different countries.
Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season. These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2010-11 season.
Draft Picks by Country:
Czech Republic – 15
Russia – 11
Sweden – 9
Slovakia – 7
Germany – 5
Switzerland – 5
Norway – 4
Latvia – 3
Finland – 2
Belarus – 1
Draft Picks by Position:
Forward – 42
Defence – 12
Goaltender – 8
Draft Picks by NHL Status:
2010 Drafted – 5
2011 Drafted – 7
2012 Eligible – 47
2013 Eligible - 3
The way things sit right now, both Tony Honejsek and Sebastian Svendsen are protected under "20 year old status".... however, Honejsek most likely will not return to Moose Jaw and play with his HC Zlin team in the Czech Republic. You can expect Sebastian Svendsen and Eric Arnold to be in attendance at camp as the Import players.
The wet weather is once again making things difficult for the Moose Jaw Multiplex.
It might cause the project completion to be delayed. The city was supposed to officially take the keys in early July-- but that date is looking to be delayed.
The outside landscaping and paving has been a big challenge due to the rain. It could be near the end of July that the City is able to take over the building.... which means a later date for the Warriors to move into the new facility as well.
If you noticed yesterday when the full schedule was released, the Warriors will be kicking off the entire WHL season with the opening game! We will be taking on the Wheat Kings for the home opener. The game will be broadcasted by SHAW.
This weekend the Warriors Athletic Therapist, Curtis Amiot is tying the knot. I will be MCing the event with Lee Jones--- and am looking forward to a great weekend. Congrats to Curtis and Andrea!
Have a great and safe long weekend!

JETS ARE BACK
Many sources are saying that we can welcome back the WINNIPEG JETS!
What does Kendall McFaull think of the name choice? (Kendall was drafted by the Thrashers last season).
"I was hoping that's what they'd be called. There is a lot of history behind the Jets which makes it exciting. I was thinking it would be cool to unveal it at the draft..."
There you have it folks!

Friday Fun
It's Friday and it's sunny--- and its Draft Day!
Here is a look at Sam Cosentino's picks for top centers, wingers, defencemen, goalies, sleeper picks and wild cards. So many mock drafts out--- and yet it always seems there is a few surprises and each one is a little different. I like how this is seperated out. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/06/23/cosentino_draft_top5_rankings/
Joel Edmundson tweeted this morning that he met with the Leafs last night and had a great supper while being escorted there in an H2 Limo. Sounds like he is enjoying himself. Director of Hockey Operations, Alan Millar and Assistant Dir. of Hockey Operations/Scouting Rob MacLachlan are both in the Twin City for the event.
I retract yesterday's posting about no reveal of a Winnipeg team tonight--!
A ton of interest and questions about Philadelphia's block buster trading yesterday. What do you think?
The Hockey News is reporting Ryan Smyth might me coming back to Canada sooner than you think and perhaps not back to Edmonton....
http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/41003-Kings-working-on-Ryan-Smyth-trade-Flames-interested.html
MINNEAPOLIS – Ryan Smyth will almost certainly get his wish to move north of the 49th parallel before the draft weekend concludes, but the Calgary Flames have entered the fray and could end up getting ‘Captain Canada’ instead of his former team in Edmonton.
Kings GM Dean Lombardi said in a conference call Thursday afternoon that he has been speaking to three teams about Smyth. Sources have confirmed those three teams are the Edmonton Oilers, which is Smyth’s preferred destination, the Flames and Winnipeg.
Smyth has no interest in going to Winnipeg, so now it is down to the Flames and Oilers and the fact Calgary has asked defenseman Robyn Regehr to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Buffalo Sabres indicates they might be clearing cap space to make room for Smyth.
In Moose Jaw news, thw river is on the rise AGAIN. Be careful and stay away from the water.

Hockey Rumblings
TSN is reporting Jeff Carter has been traded to the Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek & first and third round picks.
Sending Carter to Columbus opens up space for Philly to sign goaltender Illya Bryzgalov.
In case you were wondering, Winnipeg will not be unveiling their new jersey at the draft... instead the draftee will get a simple NHL jersey. Winnipeg will pick 7th overall.
TSN's Gord Miller just tweeted that Mike Richards is LA bound with Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds going the other way to Philly. What a big move.
Robyn Regehr of the Flames has reportedly been asked to waive his no move clause in expectations of a move to Buffalo.
Claude Noel has been named bench boss for the new Winnipeg team.
Dave Cameron, Quinton Howden's coach for World Juniors and the Mem Cup host Majors has got on with the Senators as an Assistant.

Sitting at #33 for the final ranking, Edmundson could join two other Warrior defensemen in Dylan McIlrath and Kendall McFaull as the next NHL draftees.

Who’s Who
From the WHL, you may remember him, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins from Burnaby , BC is poised to go 1st overall. Creative with the puck, with a sense for scoring—Nugent Hopkins was the first overall Bantam Draft pick and his #9 is sure to be a Rebel favourite for years to come.
The #2 ranked player by Hockey News Magazine, is Adam Larsson, the 6 foot 3 defensemen is Swedish born and you may have seen him in the 2010 World Junior Championships. Larsson’s 200 pounds would serve both the Oilers or Avalanche well on the blue line. Larrson is the top ranked European skater.
#3, Gabriel Landeskog, combines grit and skill. Playing for the Kitchener Rangers, Landeskog was originally drafted by the Plymouth Whalers—but Landeskog refused to report. Highlighted by his hard work and perseverance, this left winger is ranked as high as his potential.
Jonathon Huberdeau, is ranked #3 by the NHL Central Scouting final ranking. The 6’1” center just won the Memorial Cup and showcased his great hands and scoring ability.
Dougie Hamilton, ranked #4 by Central Scouting, playing in the OHL with Niagara , Dougie is a two way defensemen at 6’4”.
Nathan Beaulieu, is ranked at #5 and is another member of the Memorial Cup Champ Sea Dogs. Nathan scored 45 points for the past 2 years and played well in the playoffs.
Sean Couturier, sits at #6--- #4 by Hockey News Magazine. From Arizona , Couturier played for Drummondville last season and appeared at the 2010 World Juniors. He scored 3 points in 7 games during the tournament. He is a big center who protects the puck well.
Sven Bartchi, in at #7 is another WHL star. This winter during Portland ’s once visit to Moose Jaw , a team of Swiss media made the trip all the way from Sweden to see Bartchi play. In their words, “He will be better then Nino—the Swiss love his play.” Barchi put up an impressive 85 points last season and represented his home at the World Juniors.
Ryan Strome, ranked 8th, Strome is a 6 foot center who played with Niagara last season. A play maker, Stome had 106 points last season.
Ryan Murphy, ranked 9th, Murphy is highlighted by his great skating. Seventy nine points as a d-man, showcases his vision even if he is on the smaller side at 5’11”.
