AMERICANS SIGN HUMANITARIAN AWARD WINNER
Allen, Texas- Allen Americans Head Coach and GM Dwight Mullins announced the signing of forward Spencer Edwards to a contract for the 2011-2012 season.
Edwards comes to Allen after spending the last two seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors, of the Western Hockey League where he was third on his team in points (66) with 27 goals and 39 assists.
"I am very excited to be coming to Allen and start contributing,” said Americans forward Spencer Edwards. I have heard nothing but great things about the Americans organization, and want to help the team bring home a championship."
The native of Coquitlam BC was named the Humanitarian of the Year last season in the Canadian Hockey League spending many hours donating his time as a volunteer in the community. Edwards made it a regular routine to visit sick children at local hospitals as well as starting the "Captain Care” program which he initiated, purchasing season tickets and then gave them out during hospital visits.
"Winning the CHL humanitarian award was an honor,” said Edwards. I really enjoy helping out in the community in any way I can and starting the Captains Care program in Moose Jaw is something I am very proud of. It felt great to be recognized for my efforts in the
community, and I am eager to get to Allen and begin helping the team on the ice and also give back to the Allen community."
Edwards began his junior hockey career with the Red Deer Rebels in 2006, where he played parts of two seasons. He played in 32 games with the Rebels from 2006-2008. During his junior career Edwards has also spent time with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL and Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL.
“Spencer is full of character and an exciting player,” said Americans Head Coach and GM Dwight Mullins. “He has been a great leader on and off the ice and will be a great addition to our locker room.
Spencer Edwards will attend Texas Stars, training camp in Austin later this month. The Allen Americans will open training camp at the Allen Event Center on Monday October, 12th.
Spencer is in Moose Jaw for the next week practicing with the team. Welcome back Spencer!
