Wednesday Wrap

It seems the Medicine Hat Tigers are in the same position the Warriors were a few years ago. In a six to three vote on Monday night in Medicine Hat council chambers, the Tiger’s hopes of a new facility were ended with the defeat of the regional event centre funding proposal put in front of city council.

Fox News reported that Ron Robison says the failure of the City of Medicine Hat to fund a new arena is disappointing. Tigers are the only WHL franchise to have an arena that doesn't meet league standards at this time. The construction of a new arena and event centre is necessary for the Tigers to stay in the Hat.

The Brandon Sun reported this morning that the Vancouver Giants plan to name former Brand Wheat Kings goaltender Glen Hanlon as an assistant to head coach Don Hay.  Hanlon was fired last month from his position with the Slovakian national team.

Mayor of Winnipeg, Sam Katz says, “it would be a mistake” for True North Sports to name the team the Manitoba Moose or Jets or Falcons.  “You check out any NHL team in Canada and they are named after the City.”  What do you think it should be named?

The Providence is reporting that MVP candidate Daniel Sedin is just as excited or MORE, to be nominated for the NHL Foundation Player of the Year. The NHL, like the WHL gives back so much to the community and fans with so many players going above and beyond. Winning either is a big accomplishment.

The NHL Awards go tonight in Vegas. We will find out who will win the Vezina Trophy-- Luongo or Thomas?

The Portland Winterhawks announced they extended both GM/Head Coach Mike Johnston and Assn't GM/Coach Travis Green to 4 year deals.

Pierre McGuire and Craig Button's mock draft is predicting the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not go first overall--- not due to his number one rated skill but due to the fact the Oilers need a defensive weapon in Adam Larsson. McGuire has Nugent-Hopkins going to Colorado secong overall. Here is the full draft http://tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=45548

Hopefully the sun can stay out for the day--- Have a good one!
